Layered Traces #01

Layered Traces is a series by The Clique Artworks built on the logic of accumulation — the understanding that every surface is, in truth, a record of everything that came before it. Working across a restrained palette of stone, ash, charcoal, and broken white, each composition is constructed through the deliberate layering of geometric planes: facet upon facet, each one only partially concealing what lies beneath. Sharp white lines fracture the canvas like fault lines, marking the moments where one layer surrenders to the next, while passages of near-black anchor the eye against the quiet drift of warm neutrals and cool grays. The linear brushwork etched into every plane refuses the idea of a single, finished gesture — it insists instead on process, on the visible evidence of a hand returning again and again to the same surface.

Layered Traces asks what survives revision: the seams, the overlaps, the traces of every version that preceded the final one. In this sense, the series is less about geometry than about time made material — the recognition that every surface we encounter, like memory itself, is the sum of all that has been built and rebuilt beneath it.
